After attending the University of Florida and marrying Ruth Springer, they moved to Belle Glade in 1930 to begin farming in the Florida Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA). Herman established Wedgworth's, Inc. and Wedgworth Farms in 1932. The first fertilizer products were hand mixed for EAA soils. After Herman's tragic death in 1938, his wife Ruth assumed control and ran the business, eventually turning day-to-day operations over to her family. In 1950, son George Wedgworth returned home from college to work in the family business. George gathered a group of EAA farmers and began growing sugar cane, which led to the establishment of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida in 1960. In 1975, George's son Dennis started working at Wedgworth's, Inc. after finishing his graduate degree at the University of Florida. Under the leadership of Dennis Wedgworth and Jimmy Matthews, Wedgworth's expanded blending with the customization option of premium granular fertilizers and micronutrients in 1981. ### Timeline - **1932**: Herman Wedgworth and wife Ruth establish Wedgworth's, Inc. & Wedgworth Farms.
