Good in every granule – Wedgworth | Big W Brand Fertilizers since 1932

Most people don’t put a lot of thought into the idea of fertilizer, but there are few innovations that are as important to modern day life as we know it. It is commonly accepted that without fertilizer, modern farming would not exist. Bill Gates even wrote that “two out of every five people on Earth today owe their lives to the higher crop outputs that fertilizer has made possible.’

Throughout the 20th century the human population began to grow faster than the food supply that was needed to support it. The innovative nature of the human spirit led to countless inventions and solutions that have offered us the ability to go through our lives without the overwhelming worry about where our next meal comes from.

Did you know that in 1908, two German scientists discovered how to mass produce nitrogen fertilizer? Their discovery, known as the Haber-Bosch process, converts natural gas, a raw material, into nitrogen – a useable resource.

Today, scientists are developing “precision agriculture” techniques to further increase crop yields while using fertilizer more efficiently. As advocates of The Fertilizer Institute’s 4Rs of Nutrient Stewardship principles we focus our business on making recommendations that support precision agriculture, nutrient stewardship, and most importantly the continued success of the farmer. We are proud to be a part of an industry that leads to increased food production, on less land, that feeds more people. We are proud to know that every trailer load, 50 lb bag, 2.5 gallon jug that leaves our facility works to continue to feed our population. We believe there is good in every granule.
